EU faces renewed pressure over competition decisions

The European Courts have become increasingly critical of Mario Monti, the European Union competition commissioner, and the competition authorities in Brussels, just weeks after Monti's veto of a big European deal was overturned.

Last week, the European Court of First Instance grilled commission lawyers over the competition authorities' decision to veto a takeover bid of Sidel, a French plastic bottling company, by paper packaging firm Tetra Laval.
