EU ministers set rules on cross-border financial services

European Union ministers have agreed a set of common rules for selling financial services over the telephone and the internet, reaching a compromise on consumer protection.

As a result fund managers, banks, life insurers and other financial services providers will find it easier to market their offerings across the EU's 15 member states. The products involved include investment funds, credit cards and life insurance contracts.
