EU widens competition probe into finance and energy

The European Union is widening its investigations into anti-competitive behaviour in the financial and energy sectors following widespread complaints from companies and customers.

Neelie Kroes, the EU competition commissioner, said: "The enquiries will be carried out in quite a number of member states. We need to have an overview of the situation in Europe. I have received complaints from all over the place."
