The European Securities and Markets Authority, the European regulator, has declared, to the surprise of few, that it intends to tighten up regulations covering Exchange-Traded Funds.

Recent weeks have seen a string of remarks by regulators and central bankers that ETFs, particularly synthetic ETFs, could pose a threat to the market.
