European retail investors to shun equity markets

Equity markets need to gain at least 50% before European retail investors are within sight of breaking even, according to new research from Schroder Salomon Smith Barney.

SSSB's European Funds Flows report for January 2003 said: "Lack of retail involvement does not preclude an equity market recovery. However, it is unlikely that equity markets will revisit previous highs without the support of the retail investor."
