Evercore profits tumble in tough market for big deal advisers

Independent investment bank's sliding revenues augur ill for its peers

Evercore Partners reported a decline in first-quarter revenues across all of its investment banking business lines, sending a gloomy signal to its peers.

The New York independent suffered the same tough market conditions as larger investment banking rivals, but without a large retail or wealth management division to cushion the blow. Revenues at Evercore’s small asset management division rose 6% to $14.1m.
