Evergreen Investments, the asset management arm of Wachovia, has agreed to buy a majority stake in Metropolitan West Capital Management, a fund manager with $4.5bn (€3.7bn) in assets under management.

Financial terms of the deal, which is expected to be formalised in the second quarter, were not disclosed. The acquisition will increase the overall assets overseen by Evergreen to around $255bn.
