Barclays Capital has hired the former head of regulation at share trading platform Bats Europe in a further sign that investment banks are steeling themselves for the potential impact of new rules introduced in the wake of the financial crisis.

Anna Westbury, who was head of regulation and compliance at Bats Europe, joined Barclays Capital in its government relations team last month, according to sources.
