Ex-Goldman rainmaker Costamagna tipped for Generali role

Claudio Costamagna, the former chairman of European investment banking at Goldman Sachs, is poised to become the new chairman of Assicurazione Generali in the latest of a string of moves by former Goldman bankers into Italian politics and business.

Costamagna, who spent 18 years at Goldman before leaving in March 2006 and was one of the best-known dealmakers in European investment banking, is set to be named chairman of Generali at the insurer’s shareholder meeting in April in a top management reshuffle at the Italian insurer, according to Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore.
