Former Goldman Sachs executive Harvey Schwartz will chair a new clearing bank that has been valued at more than $1bn as it aims to use technology to shake-up transaction banking.

The Bank of London, a new clearing bank led by former Barclays chief information officer Anthony Watson, will hire 3,000 people over the next five years across the UK, Europe and North America, it said in a statement announcing its launch.
