Lloyds Banking Group and five of its former directors will spend more than £20m defending a case brought by 5,800 shareholders over the crisis-era acquisition of Halifax Bank of Scotland.
The multimillion-pound bill includes sums paid to lawyers and expert witnesses as the bank fights a £600m case against shareholders who say they were "mugged" by the deal.
