Fannie Mae punished with $400m fine

US regulator seeks to cap growth

Fannie Mae has been fined $400m (€311m) after a US regulator found that senior management had manipulated earnings at the US mortgage agency to maximise their bonuses.

James Lockhart, acting director of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, released the regulator's results of its two-year special examination yesterday.
