The Federal Bureau of Investigation's preliminary enquiries are focusing on whether fraud helped cause some of the troubles at Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman Brothers and American International Group, according to senior law-enforcement officials.
Lehman and AIG declined to comment.
