The Financial Conduct Authority is to probe competition in investment banking for the first time, a move that will reignite the old debate of whether investment banks are worth the fees they charge.

The UK's financial watchdog today said limited transparency over both price and quality of services, including equity and debt capital markets advice, may make it difficult for clients to assess whether they are getting value for money.
