The federal government partially shut down for the first time since 2013 early Saturday, after a House-passed bill failed to garner enough votes to clear the Senate amid a bruising battle over immigration and spending, MarketWatch reports.

Funding expired as most Senate Democrats voted against the House bill that would have extended operations through February 16, as well as delay Obamacare taxes and extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program for six years.
