The war of words between Iberdrola, the Spanish utility, and Gas Natural, the Spanish gas company that has launched a €26bn ($28bn) bid for it, has intensified.

Iberdrola has slapped down what it saw as suggestions from Gas Natural that the head of the target company would be offered a senior post in the combined group.
