A leading US proprietary trader is hiring cryptocurrency experts at home and abroad as the world's big financial firms differ on whether or not to embrace the booming, but volatile, market for digital money.

Chicago-based DRW Holdings has been an early mover in this area. Its Cumberland Mining unit has been active since 2014, trading around 20-30 cryptocurrencies including bitcoin, ethereum, zcash and monero.
