Foreign fund managers steal market share from Japanese brokerages

After years of struggling to crack the Japanese market, foreign fund managers are beginning to gain market share from local players, according to a new report from Cerulli Associates, the research firm.

Japan is considered one of the world's most difficult marketplaces but five out of every six foreign asset managers operating in the country has either defended or improved its market share in the three years ending March 2003, said Cerulli.
