Don't forget your Hurlingham card

Nice to see that a touch of class can still pull a few strings. At last week's Federation of European Securities Exchanges conference in Frankfurt, a senior speaker had to pull out at the last minute after his passport was stolen and the Swiss authorities refused to allow him to leave the country.

This prompted a senior and very English banker to tell the story of how, when his passport went missing on a business trip, he managed to travel around most of Europe and cross borders using nothing more than his membership card for The Hurlingham Club in London, one of the swankiest social and sports outfits in the UK.
