Matthew Andresen, former chief executive of Island, the electronic communications network, has joined one of the world's largest hedge fund groups less than two years after joining Sanford C Bernstein, the fund manager.

Andresen has joined the executive team running the the marketmaking businesss of Citadel Investment Group. Citadel has almost $10bn (€8bn) under management.
