Fortis, the Belgian-Dutch bank insurer, has appointed Anton van Rossum, a Brussels-based director at US consulting firm McKinsey & Co, as its new chief executive.

Fortis had been searching for a sole chief executive since March to replace Maurice Lippens and Hans Bartelds, who will both continue to oversee Fortis's strategy as non-executive chairmen.
