The UK's independent corporate governance regulator has put forward a framework that companies could use to express executive remuneration in a single figure.

The outline, released in a report from the Financial Reporting Council on Thursday, comes the day after UK business secretary Vince Cable unveiled legislation that would grant shareholders a binding vote on directors' pay and require companies to provide a simple figure for their directors' compensation.
