FSA clamps down on suspect firms

The Financial Services Authority, the UK regulator, is tightening its powers to force companies and individuals to comply with its investigations.

The move is aimed at removing all ambiguity about its statutory power to compel people and firms to provide evidence. Banks will no longer be able to cite protection of confidentiality when the FSA requests documents or answers to questions.
