FSA in U-turn on equity holdings

The Financial Services Authority has changed its policy on closed with-profits funds, saying they should be prepared to increase their exposure to equities to increase returns for policyholders, despite giving previous guidance for managers to lift their weightings in bonds.

With-profits funds are sold as life insurance but act as a form of investment with pay-outs and dividends. Closed schemes are those that are not taking on new policy holders.
