A strong stock market and Asian interest in the industry has led to a big increase in mergers and acquisitions among asset managers in the first quarter.

According to data from the corporate finance boutique Imas, the value of transactions announced in the first quarter in the fund management industry has already reached 90% of the value of all M&A activity in the sector in 2011 and 2012 combined.
