Funds get access to real-time inflation data

New initiative offers investors chance to gain a march on official figures

Pension funds, hedge funds and asset managers are being offered a peek at real-time inflation data, allowing investors to gain a march on official figures.

A partnership between State Street and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, called PriceStats, has begun to supply real-time inflation for the US, UK, Germany, France and Brazil and hopes to manage 40 country indices by the end of the year. State Street is also considering launching an investable real-time inflation index.
