G30 thinktank to look at clearing

The committee is to update its yardsticks for international capital markets

According to Sir Andrew Large, deputy chairman of Barclays, 'there is quite a bit of confusion at the chief executive and chief investment officer level about all these industry initiatives'.

The initiatives to which he refers have become something of an industry in themselves in the past decade, as a succession of working parties, trade associations, lobby groups and steering committees have launched themselves into the business of formulating recommendations on how to improve securities clearing and settlement.
