VEF, the Sfr12bn (€7.9bn) Swissair pension fund, will increase its allocation to alternative investments to 30% by 2003.
Speaking at Information Management Network's European Pension and Investing summit in Dublin, Reto Kuhn, managing director of the fund, said: "We want to increase our holding in this asset class for diversification. The asset class has no correlation with our other assets, which is also attractive. It also gives protection against shortfall in case of a stock market crash."
