Assets under management in the hedge fund industry globally have soared to $745bn (€633bn), a rise of almost 25% from the widely accepted industry figure of $600bn, according to the latest research.

The figure relates only to funds that use a third-party administrator, suggesting total existing hedge fund assets are likely to be nearer $1 trillion.
