Global syndicated loan volumes slump in 2002

Global syndicated loan volumes fell by 14% in 2002, driven mainly by a slump in activity in the Asian and Latin American markets, according to figures from Dealogic, the data provider.

Global volumes fell to $1.72 trillion (€1.64 trillion) in 2002, compared with $2 trillion a year earlier. Asian loan volumes fell by more than 15% in 2002, to $147.2bn from $170.1bn the previous year, while activity in the Latin American market slumped by 53% to $18.7bn from $38.4bn. Volumes in the US fell by 11%.
