GM downgrades spark takeover talk

Forecasts that the credit rating of General Motors is likely to fall to junk this year have ignited takeover speculation. The world's largest car maker has a $16bn (€12bn) market capitalisation, $23bn of free cash and total debts of $300bn.

Rating agencies have downgraded to within a notch of junk status and warned further downgrades may follow.
