Goldman attempts to take initiative in analyst probe

Goldman Sachs is to conduct a review of its analyst pay policy and put in place a research ombudsman in an apparent move to pre-empt an investigation by Eliot Spitzer, New York State Attorney General.

The changes signal the first voluntary move by a Wall Street bank to take on board concerns raised by Spitzer in his investigation into conflicts of interests between investment bankers and analysts.
