City firms' chances of accessing the European single market after Brexit by adhering to equivalent rules have been thrown into question by the UK government's latest proposals for leaving.

The UK's Department for Exiting the European Union published a white paper on March 30 on its Great Repeal Bill, a piece of legislation that will transpose EU rules into UK law once the country leaves the bloc.
