Green to be chief executive at HSBC

Stephen Green, head of corporate and investment banking and markets at HSBC, has been appointed as chief executive to succeed Sir Keith Whitson.

Financial News reported on Monday that HSBC insiders had tipped Green as the favourite to take over from Whitson after his retirement at the end of May. Other contenders were said to include Douglas Flint, the finance director and Bill Dalton, chief executive of HSBC Bank, the group's main subsidiary.
