Guy Hands turns attention to larger rivals

Terra Firma chairman says mega firms' flagship funds are likely 'to become mediocre over time' at SuperReturn conference in Boston

Guy Hands, chairman of UK buyout firm Terra Firma, has turned on his larger rivals, saying mega firms’ flagship funds will become “mediocre” and their returns weaker as they grow even larger.

Hands, who has been increasingly making bearish comments about the industry since his firm made a disastrous investment in UK music group EMI Group, turned his attention to the buyout giants in a speech at the SuperReturn conference in Boston yesterday.
