Gyms and shops set to re-open as mass-testing gets underway

Government piloting mass-testing process to root out virus after successful trials in Liverpool saw Covid-19 cases fall by more than two-thirds

Non-essential retail and gyms will open their doors again when the national lockdown period in England ends on 2 December, the Prime Minister is expected to announce, as the government unveils a major testing programme for those in the highest tiers.

Health secretary Matt Hancock confirmed the tiered approach to regional measures will return after 2 December, ahead of a statement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the specifics in parliament later on 23 November.
