David Harding, the marketeer who started his career selling cars, has left the Prudential group to join William Hill, the bookmakers as chief executive.

Harding had been with the Prudential group since August 1998, starting as managing director of the life and pensions business, before being made deputy chief executive of Scottish Amicable in November last year.
