Banking group HBOS, the owner of Insight Investments, has promoted its 38-year old head of retail, Andy Hornby, to be chief operating officer in a reshuffle of top jobs.

Its corporate chief executive, George Mitchell, also governor and treasurer of the Bank of Scotland, is to retire at the end of the year.
