Healthcare high prices a bitter pill

Robust mergers market leaves bad taste but benefits will be felt later

The European healthcare market has been awash with mega-deals this year, as corporate buyers look to expand or streamline their businesses and US trade buyers seek lower taxes through acquisitions of companies abroad.

While healthy activity in mergers and acquisitions should be good news for private equity firms, the problem is that the market is a bit too vigorous. Corporate demand has mostly driven prices out of the reach of private equity buyers.
