Hedge fund assets top $2 trillion

The total has exceeded the precrisis record of $1.93 trillion set in the second quarter of 2008

Global hedge fund assets surpassed the $2 trillion mark for the first time ever, Hedge Fund Research said on Tuesday, marking a rebound for the industry from market losses and customer flight during the financial crisis.

Total industry assets rose to $2.02 trillion, up $102bn in the first quarter. That total exceeded the precrisis record of $1.93 trillion set in the second quarter of 2008, the research firm said.
