Hedge funds rushed to ditch financial stocks in the first three months of the year, as the troubled start to Donald Trump's presidency tempered the initial excitement around his Wall Street-friendly policies.

During the first quarter, hedge funds sold a total of $1.5bn worth of stocks in the finance sector, according to research from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
