Home bias hurts UK pension funds

Domestic equities are still seen as best long-term investment

UK pension funds are finding it hard to drop their habit of investing predominantly in UK equities despite consultants urging that they need to diversify their asset base.

The average UK pension scheme invests almost 60% of its equity assets in domestic shares, according to WM Company, the performance consultancy. The UK's weighting in the FTSE World index is 10.4%.
