HSBC cuts top banker bonuses by 17% to $672,000

HSBC paid its top investment bank employees an average bonus of $672,000 last year, a decline of 17% as firms have slashed pay in response to a slump in deal activity.

The UK lender paid $368.6m in bonuses to its 548 so-called material risk-takers within its investment bank — a group of senior employees whose actions could impact the risk profile of the bank — compared with $410.6m a year earlier, which was an decline of 10%.
