HSBC has rubbished claims that its investment banking business lacks strategy and leadership, after an anonymous memo from alleged insiders called for the head of the division to be fired for mismanagement.

HSBC said in a statement emailed to Financial News on Thursday by its media relations team that its global banking unit, which covers traditional capital markets and merger advisory work, has “a clear strategy that is working”.
