HSBC has named Greg Guyett sole chief executive of its investment bank, as co-head Georges Elhedery moves to become its new chief financial officer in a surprise shake-up of its senior ranks.

Elhedery will take over from Ewen Stevenson as group chief financial officer on 1 January, the bank said in a statement accompanying its third-quarter results.
