HSBC Securities lets 33 broking staff go

HSBC Securities Australia, the local stockbroking arm of HSBC, is to sack 33 of its equities staff to focus its business on retail broking.

One analyst considered the move slightly odd because HSBC had turned a corner after years of underperformance in investment banking in the region.
