Alan Brown and Peter Leahy, currently interim co-heads at State Street Global Advisors, have lost out to William Hunt in the race to become the company's next chief executive.

Hunt, most recently the head of SSgA's global relationship management group, succeeds Tim Harbert who died in August last year of a heart attack.
