ICAP and Merrill join new US exchanges

ICAP Energy, the energy brokerage arm of ICAP and one of the largest energy trading houses, has become a member and liquidity provider of the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), the first multi-sector, multi-national market for reducing and trading greenhouse gas emissions.

Members of the Exchange usually trade to comply with the emission reduction requirements they have accepted under the CCX. Liquidity providers trade on the exchange for reasons other than compliance purposes. This includes serving as a principal counterparty to CCX members seeking to engage in transactions.
