One of Icap’s best-known equity traders is to leave the firm amid growing uncertainty over the future of the equities division the broker has built aggressively over the past 18 months.

Sales trader James Babbs, who joined Icap in May 2008 after eight years with Citigroup, is set to leave the broker, according to three sources close to the firm.
