Alliance Capital, among a number of US fund managers named in the mutual fund scandal, paid $330m in legal costs last year.

The costs covered "mutual fund matters and legal proceedings" the firm said in a statement. Legal costs were $147m in the fourth quarter, when the mutual fund scandal was at its height.
